Developing Innovative Financing Tools to Enhance the Financial Sustainability of Nonprofit Organizations

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the feasibility and effectiveness of innovative financing tools in enhancing the financial sustainability of nonprofit organizations and to propose a practical framework for applying these tools in the local context. The findings showed that nonprofit organizations in Saudi Arabia are making steady progress toward consolidating the principles of financial sustainability, despite ongoing challenges related to resource diversification and the adoption of modern financing tools.

The results were organized into five main dimensions that reflected the current financing reality and the readiness of organizations to transition toward more efficient and stable financial models. The Financial Sustainability dimension, with a score of 70.0%, indicated the organizations’ ability to cover their expenses and adapt to economic changes. The Traditional Financing Tools dimension, with a score of 68.0%, showed continued reliance on donations and grants, alongside growing awareness of the need for more sustainable alternatives.

The Innovative Financing Tools dimension, with a score of 74.0%, reflected a positive trend toward crowdfunding, waqf sukuk, and investment partnerships, although their practical application remains limited. The Challenges dimension, with a score of 82.0%, highlighted obstacles such as weak financial and administrative competencies, limited community awareness, and competition over resources. Meanwhile, the Enhancing Financial Sustainability dimension recorded the highest score, at 92.0%, indicating institutional awareness of the importance of income diversification, governance, and partnerships.

The overall result, at 77.2%, indicates an advanced level of awareness and readiness for sustainable financial transformation. However, the findings also emphasize the need for greater institutional empowerment and financing innovation to achieve performance stability and maximize developmental impact in light of Saudi Vision 2030.
